Budapest, Hungary

Buda & Pest

We took the day bus into Budapest. Flixbus again, our favorite, :) the short daytime
buses are not too bad actually. After we arrived in Hungary, we headed toward our
hostel. A party hostel, ranked #1 in Budapest, with crazy reviews and a room called
"Anal Room" (which we laughed about and were NOT interested in hanging out in
for the record), this hostel claimed to party all day and all night with events, outings,
and upon confirmation of your room you were consenting to shots, drinks, and fun at
every breathing second. We were both excited to try out a wild hostel, since they have
age limits and we are both approaching the cut off. Shhhhhh, lets not remind us of that fact.

Well... It turned out to be tamer than we both expected since it is currently the off season,
so our nerves and excitement weren't for much. There weren't people passed out everywhere
and we never even saw a door for the infamous "Anal Room" (haha, I just can't get over that
name and the hype behind it, I'm so immature...), we were welcomed with a free shot and beer
and they did have a really nice outdoor bar area, which was actually a ruin bar that was open to
the public. We didn't let that phase us. We got out and got some great street food, we went to
the ruin bars. Ruin bars are places to eat and drink that are in former abandoned buildings.
They range from run-down and artsy to funky and high-end. Our hostel was located in one,
we also got drinks in two other bars in the city and took cool pictures.

The city Budapest was once two cities: the hilly, historic, and expensive Buda, and the flat,
newer and more art-focused Pest. There is lots of history there as it was one of the capitols
of the former Austria-Hungary empire. The city was also occupied by the Turkish people by
force centuries ago, so there is a big history of the thermal baths. We went to Szechenyi
Thermal Baths, the biggest and most grand of the many options in Budapest, there were
countless pools of varying temperatures, saunas, steam rooms and ice cold plunge pools.
Since the mineral-rich waters have healing properties, some of the people at the spas are
there on doctors orders--covered by health insurance!

There is a lot going on in these cities. The mix of new, old and everything in between makes
it a great place for a good time. There is music, art, booze, dancing, shopping, baths, history...
you name it, this place has it with a side of charm. Great for a fun get away.

We spent some time shopping and walking the city and in general just having a good time,
relaxing and having no plans before our next journey began. ICELAND!!!

Until Next Time,

Linds and Ryan
