Oktoberfest- Munich, Germany

EIN PROSIT!

Munich, we made it! After getting situated at our hotel, Linds and Emily went into the city to look for a
dirndl--the traditional Bavarian women’s attire. They found one for Emily. Elisa, our German friend was
kind enough to give Lindsey her’s to wear for the festival. After getting our bearings. We made our game
plan for the next day, arrive early and scope out a table. We did not have reservations, so you have to
walk up and stake your claim early. Nothing like an 11am one-liter beer! Prost! Another spoiler alert,
drinking 6% beer in one-liter servings catches up with you fast. We were done before dinner time.
We had three liters, and I’m not exactly sure how we made it back to the hotel :) it felt like we were back
in college! Needless to say, we were all worthless the next day, and we all agreed to a day of relaxation
in the hotel room!

We also took a short break from the festivities to go to a more somber place, Dachau Concentration
Camp. After our visit there, it was tough to get back into the “party mood”, after reading about its history
and seeing where so many had suffered.
We went back to the festival two more times to walk around and see all the rides, games and tents.
There were two really neat activities we stopped and watched. The first being a giant swing, where the
goal is to self-propel yourself over the top of the swing set to keep going in a circle. The next was in a
tent, where different age groups would sit down on the center of this large moving disc, and as the disc
moved faster people would fly off. Two workers also threw ropes and balls at them as obstacles. It was
HILARIOUS. We got a good laugh for awhile.

The tents in the evening are spectacular and not to be missed. They are filled with people, live music
and a lot of singing and dancing. Unfortunately we had a tough time getting a table and were only able
to walk around on the inside, as they don’t serve beers if you are not at a table. We were able to sit out
in the beirgarten next to a tent the last night where we enjoyed one more liter of beer and a giant pretzel
before getting on our night sleeper train to our next adventure spot--Croatia!

Until next time,

Linds and Ryan
