Paris and Brugge Road Trip

Image
**There are two posts here Paris and Brugge at the bottom** PARIS We were on the fence about going to Paris. We had just three days, and it was over six hours each way to the City of Lights. We went back and forth about the decision for awhile and ultimately decided we are only here once, we decided to go for it and just do it spontaneously! So off we go in another rental car with a French music playlist Ryan made through many small French towns to avoid tolls, it was actually really pretty, simple and relaxing. And then Paris… it has a glamour in peoples minds unlike any other city. Arriving was nothing glamorous as we had to park at our Airbnb and take a train one hour into the city to get to the historical areas. (If you go to Paris I would highly recommend just staying down in the main area, even if it is a bit pricier! It cost us each 20 euro for a round trip each time we went from our Airbnb and back, yikes! Didn’t know it’d be so expensive, so we on...

Hallo Germany & Friends

Image
*more pictures at the bottom of the post* Germany After our flight from Madrid, we arrived in Dusseldorf. First step was hitting up an arrivals lounge for free lunch and a German beer! After we confirmed and picked up our rental car, we headed to our friend Christopher’s house in Viersen, Germany. It was great seeing Christopher and Anja again, over a month had gone by since we all were boating together in Lago di Garda, Italy. We relaxed our first night at Christopher’s, since we had a 5 hour bus ride from Alcala la Real to Madrid, then a red-eye flight to Dusseldorf--we were beat! The next day we decided to get outside, Lindsey and I saw Eifel National Park was only 2 hours away, so we took a beautiful drive to the nature area, walked around and enjoyed lunch outdoors. Later that evening our German friends  invited us to a music festival in the town square. A great evening together, we enjoyed drinks with Christopher, Anja and Simone. Simon...

Second WorkAway: Alcala la Real

Image
Workaway in Alcala La Real with Des (Photos at the end for formatting and sanity's sake)   What do you get when you mix a Hula-hooping Australian, a body painting Australian, two Americans, and an older British gentleman under one roof?  One helluva circus! When we think back on our time at this work away we laugh and smile. We worked with these two girls for one day, but we already could tell their stay just wasn’t working out like our host hoped. I think he was happy to have us :) When Ryan found this workaway on the website we were instantly excited. It was the right location, right time, and the right amount of peaceful, quiet, nature time we wanted. Alcala la Real is a beautiful area in Southern Spain where the make up is mostly farm land, with some small towns sprinkled in. It’s the heartland of olive trees, and Des had a variety of other things growing as well; grapes, figs, and almonds for example. His home has come a long way from when they first purc...
